designer: Julia Lohmann

The UK-based designer, Julia Lohmann created explored the potentials of kelp as a lamp material. Kelp, is a kind of fast-growing seaweeds belonging to the brown algae(Phaeophyceae) in the order Laminariales. They grow in underwater forests in shallow oceans that are recognized as one of the world’s most dynamic and productive ecosystems.

After several steps of treatment  (drying, re-hydrating, varnishing, soaking and wrapping) the astonishing final product makes its appearance.
